This Won't Hurt a Bit! Regional Anesthesia and Nerve Blocks
Course Description
This hands-on and interactive skill lab will focus on a variety of easily performed regional nerve blocks which can be used for numerous different wounds and injuries involving the hands, hips, feet, face, and even teeth. Using small group teaching and a multimedia approach, participants will have the opportunity to learn about these simple but highly useful blocks.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
- List the medications used and complications of common nerve blocks.
- Discuss the indications and contraindications of these nerve blocks.
- Explain the basic anatomy and innervation patterns of the hand, foot and face.
- Indicate the sites used for the different nerve blocks and the area affected.
- Describe the site for and benefit of femoral nerve blocks for hip fractures.
