Invitation to Support

Dear Colleagues,

Since its beginning in 2001, the Mediterranean Emergency Medicine Congress (MEMC) has grown to become one of the leading international meetings for emergency medicine (EM) physicians worldwide. At the Third MEMC in Nice, France in 2005 more than 1,100 individuals from more than 60 countries attended the meeting. An even greater number of participants are expected to attend the Fourth MEMC in Sorrento, Italy in 2007.

The MEMC attracts a world-class faculty of renowned emergency medicine academicians and clinical leaders, who give outstanding lectures, discuss clinical cases and moderate hundreds of abstract and poster sessions, in a genuine spirit of academic and scientific exchange. This spirit of exchange and high-level intellectual collaboration between faculty and participants in wonderful Mediterranean settings has proven to be an appealing combination for emergency medicine physicians both from countries where EM is already a well-established area of clinical practice and from countries where EM is just emerging as a clinical discipline. Throughout the ages, the Mediterranean region has been a crossroads where diverse cultures and intellectual traditions have met and engaged with exciting consequences. The MEMC has likewise become a vibrant crossroads for the international EM professional community where a rich exchange of ideas and culture promotes and nurtures the development of the international emergency medicine community.

One of the reasons for this past success is the caliber of the supporting institutions and thought leaders who have embraced the unique concept of this biennial meeting. The MEMC is the product of a cooperative partnership between the European Society for Emergency Medicine (EuSEM), the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM) and the national EM society of the country hosting the Congress, which this year is La Società Italiana di Medicina d'Emergenza-Urgenza (SIMEU) in Italy. But we could not have accomplished this without the support of other institutions and organizations from around the world that have joined with us in the spirit of advancing the international development of emergency medical care and strengthening the international EM professional community to make the MEMC succeed.

We invite you to join with other leading academic institutions and demonstrate your commitment to the international development of emergency medicine by serving as an institutional supporter of the Fourth Mediterranean Emergency Medicine Congress in Sorrento, Italy in September 2007.

In supporting the MEMC, academic institutions create a visible link between the MEMC and the international academic EM community. This enhances the academic profile of the MEMC and helps attract a critical mass of academic and clinical EM leaders, which in turn supports the creation of a world-class educational and research forum, as well as a stimulating environment for formal and informal exchange of ideas and professional contacts. By supporting the MEMC and allowing it to serve as the leading professional meeting forum for the international EM community, academic institutions are able to play a valuable role in the international development of the specialty of emergency medicine.

In exchange for your financial support, you will receive an array of tangible benefits proportional to the level of support that you choose.

We would be happy to discuss these benefits packages with you in order to make them most appropriate for your institution's needs. Likewise, we welcome suggestions from Supporting Institutions regarding potential speakers and moderators for the MEMC IV Scientific Programme.
